Mobile Food Vendor Freedom Municipal Ordinance
Municipal legislation to remove unnecessary roadblocks for food truck entrepreneurs
Starting a food truck has helped many entrepreneurs realize the American dream. These mobile kitchens create jobs and provide an economic boost to the communities they serve.
Unfortunately, many counties and cities make it near to impossible for food trucks to operate. Some even ban food trucks altogether—often at the bequest of brick-and-mortar businesses that capture the regulatory process to prevent competition.
IJ’s Model Mobile Food Vendor Freedom Ordinance helps local governments remove unnecessary obstacles for food truck entrepreneurs. The model creates a simple process for applying for a food truck license. It also provides clear standards regarding where and how food trucks can operate.
Additionally, the model streamlines inspections. The model allows for regular inspections but ensures the inspection regime is rationally tied protecting consumers. It further protects public health and safety by making sure the county or city has the ability to investigate complaints of foodborne illness.
In counties and cities across America, food truck businesses have created economic opportunity and countless jobs. By enacting IJ’s Model Mobile Food Vendor Freedom Ordinance, local governments can encourage and support these small businesses while providing consumers with new and tasty offerings.

STAY TUNED FOR DETAILS ON LONG ISLAND'S TASTIEST FOOD TRUCK RODEOS
Our Goal is to remove (TIM) Time is Money off your back by offering our services which has become streamlined in certain areas and less time consuming in other areas. Planners and organizers usually have a million other things to do to make sure their event, party, festival, fair, is a success and if they can avoid countless phone calls and catering issues that will certainly arise last minute when dealing with food truck operators, it would be a tremendous burden lifted off their backs. We pride ourselves with the ability in most cases to lighten the load for planners and organizers and how much is that worth to a business or organization when it comes to the bottom line.
Our services include a free consultation, then comes the countless phone calls we make on your behalf, venue descriptions to each food truck, price/cost negotiations, securing backups if necessary, making sure they fill out the necessary paperwork, scheduling and personality conflict management, utilizing our knowledge base and resources to locate the best food truck options available at the time to fit your budget.
We provide these services for a nominal fee which is far less than what it would cost in time and money to a business or organization allocating these services to a planner or organizer that is responsible for the entire event, party, festival or fair. Planners and organizers would gladly pay this nominal fee in order to relieve themselves of this stressful challenge and which would allow them more time to concentrate on the other more important planning aspects of their venue.
Long Island Food Trucks was established to provide multiple services as it relates to the growing demand for Gourmet Food Trucks across Long Island NY. The Catering business on Long Island has become much more competitive now that Gourmet Food Trucks have entered the market. Restaurants have found that expansion has become increasingly more difficult due to the high costs of regulation and staffing and are moving toward mobile catering options to adapt to the new economic challenges. Gourmet Food Trucks offers a viable solution as an alternative to expansion while those chefs who cant afford to open a restaurant see an opportunity to show off their culinary skills without the overhead of a lease or large staff.
(TIM) Time is Money - Is a cost businesses and organizations must weigh when it comes to organizing their upcoming events, private parties, wedding catering, street festivals, fairs, farmers markets, and corporate luncheons and cocktail hours. Planners and Organizers know the pain staking challenges of not only getting in touch with food trucks but booking them due to the uncertainty of weather, breakdowns, conflicts of competition between the truck owners, money issues, attendance, health issues, permitting issues, staffing, amongst a whole host of other issues not mentioned here.
Here lies the challenge for those who take on the challenge of Booking a Food Truck for their private party, event, festival, wedding, street fair, farmers market, and food truck rallies. Other challenges are knowing the limitations of each food truck as it relates to serving capacities, speed or service, quantity of food and preparation time vs attendance, setup costs, past experiences with venue, health department permits and related costs necessary to participate in your event or festival. Village, Town, County, codes regarding ancillary systems, propane, and generators are different throughout long island and must be taken into consideration when booking a food truck.
Any and All Contributions are welcomed and appreciated.
We hope the services we provided were helpful and cost effective for your Business or Organization

Why food trucks?
The versatility of a food truck allows chefs to work in a smaller kitchen with a limited menu, giving them a chance to focus on making a specific dish. Popular food truck menus include grilled cheese, sandwiches, tacos and hamburgers. Though food trucks have their own set of expenses, such as additional gas and waste removal costs, they generally are less expensive to run than a traditional restaurant and require less staffing. Food trucks also have a natural sense of locality. Even if food trucks move around a specific community, they dedicate themselves to serving multiple neighborhoods, creating a routine to garner loyal patrons as well as new customers.
In general, food trucks also have strong social media connections, revealing where they might be for lunch or dinner via Facebook or Twitter. The majority of people that follow food trucks over social media visit them weekly. This also creates a relationship with patrons outside of serving them food. Furthermore, food trucks tend to be faster than sit-down restaurants, while still providing high-quality food. This makes them particularly popular during lunch hours, when most workers are limited on time. Another benefit of food trucks is that competition is friendly, and in many cases, spurs business.
What is a food truck rodeo?
A food truck rodeo, also sometimes known as a food truck roundup or festival, is a gathering of food trucks at a specific location. Food truck rodeos usually take place at parks, downtown hubs or major public events. {revise – I’d split this up into two sentences} Sometimes as many as 50 or more food trucks come together for these events, which feature special challenges between trucks, such as taco showdowns. These communal gatherings offer a balanced and diverse selection of food, giving each esoteric truck a chance to show off their signature flavors. Simultaneously, they offer the public an opportunity to sample the fares of numerous trucks and develop a following for their favorites.
The food truck rodeo is a collegial way of encouraging community involvement, gaining patronage and making food the ultimate playing field.

Countless regulations, food and staffing costs, permitting, and obstacles both known and unknown make Long Island a very difficult environment to operate a food truck business, that is one of the reasons why we are approximately 5 years behind most of the states like Florida, Texas, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, California, and Connecticut. Hopefully de-regulation occurs at some point which will help spur a food truck revolution here on Long Island. We would like to lead the way in this challenge.
